Exceptional Care for Children (ECC) accepts volunteers of all ages!
When you volunteer at ECC, you can make a meaningful difference in the life of a child and have flexible options and opportunities that fit your schedule.
Volunteer Opportunities

LIVING ROOMS
Volunteers visit on a flexible schedule in the Living Rooms, to play with the children during their downtime.
PLAY THERAPY
Volunteers visit in our Play Room, to help the children reach their goals through the disguise of structured and free play.


CLASSROOM
Volunteers visit weekly while school is in session, to assist the children with their education goals.
ENTERTAINMENT
Volunteers visit to lead an activity with a group of ECC children. Activities can range from painting class, dance lessons or recital, musical entertainment, etc.

FAQs

How Do I Get Started?
If you would like to volunteer, the first step is to take a tour of the facility during our Volunteer Tour & Orientation. The tour and orientation will take approximately 60 minutes total, and advanced sign up is required. Click here for upcoming orientation dates and to sign up.
Additionally, before you can begin to volunteer, you must complete the following:
- Volunteer Paperwork
- Letter of Recommendation (for Middle & High School Volunteers Only)
- 2-Step PPD Test, TB Bloodwork or Chest X-Ray Results
- Receive all recommended COVID-19 vaccine shots, including booster(s)
Will You Train Me?
You got it! In addition to Volunteer Orientation, which all volunteers must attend prior to beginning volunteer work, each volunteer will receive a supervised “First Volunteer Visit”. During this visit, the Volunteer Coordinator will show you sign in/out procedures, tour you around your assigned volunteer area, introduce you to children and staff, and take your photo for your Volunteer ID badge.
Is There A Minimum Time Commitment?
Volunteers are required to participate 1 hour each month, to remain active.
Do You Have Evening And Weekend Volunteer Opportunities?
Living Room volunteers can visit in the evenings and on the weekends. ECC also has weekend & evening special events throughout the year, that volunteers may assist with.
I Just Want To Visit One Time – Is That OK?
Only Entertainment Volunteers are accepted for one-time visits. If you are interested in a one-time Entertainment Volunteer visit, please contact Emily Holcombe eholcombe@exceptionalcare.org
Will You Verify My Volunteer Hours?
Yes we will! If you need a record of volunteer hours for school, scholarship or another reason, a verification of volunteer hours letter can be prepared by the Volunteer Coordinator, with advance notice; however, the hours can only be listed if they can be verified. Volunteers are required to track their own hours and submit to the Volunteer Coordinator with request to verify.
Do You Accept Court Mandated Volunteer Hours?
No we do not.
Is There A Minimum Age Requirement?
We accept volunteers Kindergarten age and older! However, volunteers under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian present in the building while they are volunteering. All volunteers must be able to tolerate mask wearing.


Does Exceptional Care For Children Participate In The Presidential Volunteer Service Award Program?
Yes we do! Exceptional Care for Children has been a Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Certifying Organization since 2016.
