Donate Cryptocurrency
Exceptional Care for Children is now accepting donations via cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Give more for less cost!

Donating crypto directly to charity can save you money on two types of taxes:
- Avoid paying capital gains tax on your crypto gains
- Receive a federal income tax deduction for the full value of your crypto (state & local income tax deductions may also be available).
Boom! 💥 You just gave more for less cost!
The alternative is to sell your crypto and donate the cash proceeds, but you would first owe capital gains tax on the appreciation, resulting in higher taxes for you and less dollars going to furthering the mission of Exceptional Care for Children.

WHAT IS CRYPTOCURRENCY?
Cryptocurrency, also known as Virtual Currency or “Crypto,” is a digital asset designed to function as an alternative to sovereign fiat currency (US Dollars, for example) whereby transactions between two parties are verified through a public, distributed ledger, also known as a blockchain. Most people think of Bitcoin and/or Ether when they hear the word “Crypto,” and while Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency and most widely followed, there are a number of cryptocurrencies currently available.
WHAT IS THE ENGIVEN PLATFORM?
The Engiven platform is a third-party vendor-provided donation software technology that enables nonprofits to safely and securely receive cryptocurrency donations and then convert those donations into usable fiat currency such as US dollars. Learn more about Engiven here.
IS IT LEGAL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CARE FOR CHILDREN TO ACCEPT DONATIONS OF CRYPTOCURRENCY?
Yes. It is lawful for a nonprofit to accept a donation in the form of a cryptocurrency. On March 2014, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) ruled that Bitcoin is treated as property for tax purposes (IRS Notice 2014-21).
HOW ARE CRYPTOCURRENCY DONATIONS TREATED FOR FEDERAL TAX PURPOSES?
Cryptocurrency is treated as property by the IRS. For U.S. tax purposes, transactions using virtual currency must be reported in U.S. dollars. Therefore, taxpayers will be required to determine the fair market value of virtual currency in U.S. dollars as of the date of donation. If a virtual currency is listed on an exchange and the exchange rate is established by market supply and demand, the fair market value of the virtual currency is determined by converting the virtual currency into U.S. dollars (or into another real currency which in turn can be converted into U.S. dollars) at the exchange rate, in a reasonable manner that is consistently applied. Donors who give cryptocurrency donations to Exceptional Care for Children will receive an electronic donation receipt (through the Engiven donation platform) in US dollars with comprehensive details about each transaction.
HOW DOES EXCEPTIONAL CARE FOR CHILDREN USE MY GIFT OF BITCOIN OR OTHER CRYPTOCURRENCY?
Through the Engiven platform, Exceptional Care for Children will immediately convert your gift of Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, or other cryptocurrency to US dollars. Unless otherwise designated, funds are then used to support the general operations of the charity.
Why should I donate crypto to Exceptional Care for Children?
Help Delaware’s medically fragile children today.
Exceptional Care for Children improves the lives of medically fragile children and their families through skilled nursing, transitional services, and palliative care. We are a haven for healing fragile bodies when improvement is possible, and a refuge for nurturing vulnerable spirits when a cure is unattainable.
As Delaware’s first and only pediatric skilled nursing facility and a Top-100 Nursing Home in the United States, Exceptional Care for Children takes pride in caring for our very inspiring residents and providing them with as normal a childhood as possible despite their medical challenges.
The kids we serve need help with the most basic things. Their medical conditions are chronic, complicated and extremely limiting on their lives. Most of them are in wheelchairs, and they depend on technology to breathe, eat, and communicate. Their conditions include genetic disorders, traumatic injuries and childhood diseases. They have a lot of needs, but they also have persistence, spirit, and a strong will to live.
